Collingwood artist Jenn Wilkins turns passion and creativity into vibrant, colourful paintings

by AUTHOR

A Happy Place, acrylic on canvas, 24 x 36 inches

Jenn Wilkins has been interested in art since childhood. After furthering her education with a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Western Ontario, she travelled extensively for a year and landed in Cape Town, South Africa, which influenced her desire to experiment with more colour in her paintings.

“Playing with colour and the compositional elements in a painting is like a dance,” she says. “It’s subtle balance between elements within a painting that creates a feeling or energy that the observer can relate to, get lost in or enjoy.”

Wilkins paints both landscapes and abstracts, noting, “I’ve found recently that more people are open to the idea of abstracts.” Her approach to painting abstracts is intuitive.

“I subconsciously focus on balancing mood, strength, depth, rhythm, energy, value, contrast and other design elements that rein in my compositions, although I may push the boundaries where ‘happy little accidents’ occur, usually ending in positive results!”

Working from her studio in Collingwood’s Tremont building, she is represented locally by Butter Gallery in Collingwood and The Mad and Noisy Gallery in Creemore. She has work in both private and corporate collections across Canada and internationally.
