“I made the appointment, and on my way out I said to the ladies at the desk, ‘See you next year, girls,’” Jayne Pritchard recalls of the day five years ago when a routine mammogram changed her life.

She walked out the doors of the breast imaging centre at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie only to be called back for a second scan and then a biopsy. “They found an aggressive type of breast cancer in its early stages.” Pritchard is a friendly and familiar face to many. The former anchor at CTV News Barrie is sharing her experience in a new book, Breast Cancer—After the Diagnosis: One Woman’s Story of Overcoming Setbacks.
“On my journey I learned so much. This knowledge is to share with others, not to keep to myself,” says Pritchard. In her first-person account, Pritchard shares her physical, emotional and spiritual struggles as she navigated her way through seven surgeries and some alternative treatment choices.
“Don’t ignore your health, get whatever diagnostic test you may need, because you don’t know what you’re going to find,” says Pritchard. She says early detection is key to a positive outcome.
Pritchard’s book is available in Collingwood at The Body Bar Apothecary & Wellness Shop, in Midland at Georgian Bay Books, in Barrie at Coles and Indigo, as well as on Amazon.
