The calendar still says summer, but it’s already autumn at On The Bay Magazine. Our Fall issue is in the works, and it’s shaping up to be another must-read.

Fall is the perfect time to take a look around our homes and identify what needs to be updated, and this issue includes our annual Home Improvement & Style section designed to help you with ideas and trends to update your home.

Writer Judy Ross has filed two stories that are sure to get you thinking creatively about home improvement. The first is a comprehensive piece on the latest trends in kitchen design. The second is about a historic Collingwood bungalow that was completely destroyed by fire – and then completely rebuilt using methods and materials that are true to the original craftsmanship and character of the home.

When it comes to activities, fall can be tricky. October and November can present many miserable days that don’t lend themselves to outdoor fun, so we had writer Emily Worts explore the indoor wonders of our region’s many art galleries. We are blessed in Southern Georgian Bay to have an abundance of talented artists in our midst, and our local galleries are the perfect place to feast your eyes on some world-class artwork when all outdoors is grey and dreary.

Pairing with our galleries story, writer/photographer Nancy Falconer is putting her own artistic sensibilities into a profile of a beloved local painter who will talk about her own work as well as the growth of the artistic community in Southern Georgian Bay, and the joys and challenges of making a living as an artist.

The feature I am writing for our Fall issue is a bit of a secret, so I don’t want to give too much away in advance. However, what I can say is that it spotlights an innovative region-wide initiative that brings together not only our geographic communities, but also our business, cultural, charitable and educational communities. It’s a story about ingenuity, ideas, collaboration, and creating sustainable prosperity throughout our region.

Our professional photographers, Kristie and Brenden Woods, Derek Trask and Nancy Falconer, have been shooting some eye-popping photos, and art director Holger Meiche is working his magic on layouts that bring words and images together as only On The Bay can.

I’m excited about bringing you another great issue of On The Bay, perfect for curling up on a cool autumn day and celebrating life in this amazing place we are lucky enough to call home. Watch for it in late September!
