About On The Bay
On The Bay was launched in March 2004 by Jeffrey Shearer, the principal shareholder of On The Bay Magazine Inc. A regional lifestyle magazine for the Southern Georgian Bay region, On The Bay is published four times per year. Editorially, the magazine publishes 100% original Canadian content covering local lifestyle topics, homes, food, fashion and sports and each issue addresses the major issues that challenge the fast growing yet environmentally sensitive Southern Georgian Bay region, along with local lifestyle topics, homes, food, fashion and sport.
With a controlled circulation of 22,000 delivered directly to homes in 20 Georgian Bay communities by Canada Post and through distribution to hotels and private golf and ski clubs in Southern Georgian Bay, On The Bay is the authoritative print medium for the region with over 50,000 readers.
Over 400 businesses in Southern Georgian Bay have advertised in On The Bay since its launch and the magazine was awarded the 2006 Business Excellence Award by the Collingwood Chamber of Commerce and the 2007 Media Award from Grey Bruce Tourism. A professionally conducted survey showed On The Bay to be the best read and best liked magazine in the region. The magazine is a member of Magazines Canada, the country’s leading magazine publishing association, and adheres to the professional standards set out by this esteemed industry organization.
On The Bay has a staff of seven, including Editor, Janet Lees; Art Director Holger Meiche; Administration & Production Manager, Cindy Caines; Anita Hunter, Proofreader and Events Editor and two Advertising Sales Managers, Shauna Burke and Patti Bowden. As well, On The Bay commissions, on a regular basis, over a dozen writers, photographers and artists to create the original content of the magazine.
On the Bay’s Publisher, Jeff Shearer, has published some of the Country’s leading magazines including Saturday Night Magazine and Applied Arts Magazine. He was president of Telemedia Publishing, (now Transcontinental Publishing) one of Canada’s major magazine publishing houses and served as chair of Magazines Canada.
